A customer contacted Project Remaps after the AdBlue countdown on their 2019 Citroën C5 Aircross 1.5 BlueHDi had completely run out. Once the countdown reached zero, the vehicle entered its shutdown state and could no longer be started normally.
Our mobile technician attended the vehicle and completed a full diagnostic assessment. Testing identified the common P20EE fault code, which relates to the performance of the vehicle’s Selective Catalytic Reduction system.
The P20EE fault is commonly associated with AdBlue and SCR system problems. Depending on the underlying issue, it can cause an emissions warning, engine-management light or a decreasing mileage countdown.
On this Citroën C5 Aircross, the countdown had already expired and the vehicle had reached its non-start state. Clearing the stored code alone would not provide a lasting solution because the AdBlue system would continue detecting the original fault.
Before carrying out any software work, we completed a full diagnostic check of the Citroën’s engine-management and AdBlue systems.
This allowed us to:
Completing a proper diagnosis first is important because AdBlue warning messages can be caused by several different components or system conditions.
Following the diagnostic assessment, we carried out a full AdBlue software delete on the vehicle’s engine control unit.
The relevant ECU software was professionally modified and the associated AdBlue fault data was addressed. The vehicle was then checked again to confirm that the software procedure had been completed successfully.
The entire job—including diagnostics, software work and final checks—was completed in approximately one hour.
